Kidnapped!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
FOOT '08 came to a resounding closure on Saturday night, and my little Octanites are now sinking in the comforts of their wonderland awaiting for their new chapters to unfold.
Unraveling the events of FOOT '08 will begin following this week, as our Reporter Princess K. is currently expected to trade her soul to the Ministry of Evil. But take heart that she will be diligently penning the accounts in her Princess' Diaries.
Before I embark upon that, this entry shall be addressed to a particular criminal.
DESCRIPTION: Boy, age 20, with a dubious hairdo
REWARD: Free haircut by Jean Yip
Following the cue of dusk after SP Night, Quack3, Daniel, Eraser and I hurried back to Hougang-land where we could spoil ourselves with deep slumber. Desperate to retain a little of consciousness, Candide Junior was called forth to entertain. Arriving at our destination, Eraser and I scurried out, enthused about catching up on lost sleep.
The dawn broke with Princess hopping in wild frenzy, conjuring up a mess in her Royal Chambers. Heartbroken and on the brink of tears, she harrassed Quack3, Himbo and Gwenny for help in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
A reply was finally returned to several hours later: "Your camera is now within my possession. To see it again in your hands, you are expected to endorse my excellent taste of style and quirky sense of humour."
And so, I am coerced to declare publicly that Daniel Ng Is indeed a worthy boy of mention. That being said, quit kidnapping other people's pretty cameras and giving them heart attacks!!!
Princess K.
P.S. Ok, I'll concede that I owe Daniel the Skunk a million buckaroos for my reunion with my Candide Junior. If not for his vigilance, the treasury of photos collected through camp, would have been lost in Taxi-town... >,<

Schizo Hydra
Sunday, July 13, 2008
Sacrificing sleep on a Saturday morning, the Octans met at Jurongland to paint the flag. It also marked the very first time the Freshies stepped onto NTU soil!
Two new faces were spotted amongst the crowd:
From left: Zack and Daniel
Zack comes from a line of ODAC blood and is very well-versed in the language of outdoors. In his youth, he has traversed quite so many mountains and has endured a handful of sandflies attack. Lesson learnt: Go trekking with a stinky BO so that no flies would dare come anywhere near you!
Daniel's unconventional hairstyle screams "ADM"!!! He shall be very delighted to know that Pretty Princess K. would be more than happy to play lead character to his blockbuster when time comes. Lesson learnt: Obey Pretty Princess' words and you shall graduate with a First Class Honours with my First-Grade acting!
Our resident designer, Kim Joo, began the day by showing us a design of some horrifying hydra..., which unfortunately earned thumbs-up from everyone else. The rationale of enlisting the monster as our bumbling mascot is because the tail of the Hydra is symbol to the Omnipotent Octans.
Surrounded by the ever so attractive Octanites, our pet Hydra could not conceal her shyness. Her countenance gradually radiated a healthy pink hue and it was matched with mauve mascara. The overall effect made her appearance much more amiable.
and very much like a Pretty Unicorn! =^_^=
But while the Freshies toiled under the hot sun, the lazy Seniors were caught thinking about their stomachs instead!
Time was spent hydrating themselves with milo-peng and teh-peng (a drink for all the Lao Ah Peks in the world)... and masticating sticky mochi-mochi (compliments from Quack3's Roomie, Lawrence.)
Inept Seniors aside, the Freshies independently whipped out their creative masterpieces in a flash of time!
As we sneakily knocked from door-to-door spying on other groups' works, it was of little dispute that ours shone with such laudable appeal.
Hours after midday, our duty was fulfilled and we proudly posed with our creation.
A scrutiny at our efforts had us realise that our flag can be malleably fixed by gender. A disgruntled, ill-humoured gent could carry the ferocious Hydra marked in black and white; while the rosy Hydra would complement an exuberant and sweet damsel! Whee~
We were rewarded with a sumptuous spread of beef ball noodle, fish and chips, and chicken rice at Canteen 2 before amassing items required for the coming Monday camp.
Banner Painting was good opportunity for the Seniors to bark mercilessly and make the Freshmen follow their bidding. But most importantly, it was also a chance to know one another a little better in order to... Not choose a snoring git to sleep next to during camp (And Princess so does not snore!!!) >,<

Of Barbarians and Cheapos...
Thursday, July 10, 2008
On the 4th of July, the ODACians marched forth in celebration of their independence outside the Esplanade. At the stroke of 6pm, the Freshies were directed to the FOOT Receptionists where they were promptly liberated from the chains of S$70 and grandly ushered to their respective groups where they were cheerily greeted by our ever so glamorous GLs.
The Early Birds were itching for a portrait, and Pretty Princess K. was only too happy to accede.(First Row from Left: FionA, Joshua, Kok Siong, Winson, JiNli, Michelle; Clump at the Back: Ching, Hazel, Ruyan, Denis and QingYong) See if you can spot them this Saturday! :)
Our mob was cued by racking our brains hard for an adjective that would aptly describe ourselves.
The challenge was mind-boggling, but it started us on the first step of "Bridging the Octanites!"
Amid the stiffy gray skies, we were engaged in a game of "Blow Wind Blow"...
where cordial civilians were transformed into brash barbarians! Slowpokes of Octans were then carefully selected for a special forfeit...To the "7 Steps of Micturition!"
Night drew near and our eyesights were then brutally tested with a game of "Where's The Penny?"A game tailored for Cheapos, a 20-cent-coin is grasped tightly in his palm. Even as one tries to pitiably whine for it, the vicious Scrooge shall heartlessly refuse relinquishing over the precious penny. Boo! :(
The Sun tsk-tsked down the skies, in disapproval of our excessively unpalatable behaviour. We were compelled to draw a finito on our activities with a customary ODAC salutation.
And thus spelt the birth of the O-some Octans!
For those who had the misfortune of missing the Briefing, I do hope that this entry has shed some light of what was done on our Independence Day!

First Meets!
Monday, July 7, 2008
One Youth Day morning, Pop banged at my doors and yelled at the top of his lungs, "It's 7am! Aren't you readying for school?" I was forced to rub sleep out of my eyes, feed myself with breakfast and then, decided it timely to dedicate this space to my splendid Octanites.
Child of Ofoes, Octans is a star that hails from ODAC-land Foot '08. The Octanites survived the ordeal of having to contend with curious stares from trotting tourists and stony-faced security guards in attendance of the FOOT Camp Briefing outside Esplanade on the 4th July 2008.
For the newly-inducted, here is a little history of my dearest Ofoeans.
Here are some lengthy insights of my Ofoean kids for an Octanite's read!
(Bottom Row from left: Yong Jun, Zhen Han, Kang Hong.)
Yong Jun and Zhen Han are both graduates from NTU and there is a mighty huge chance that you shall not have the fortune of meeting them.
Kang Hong: Also affectionately known as Kang Kong or EX-HubZ 6, Kang Hong is a strong sportsman who can do almost anything! From drawing to canoeing to volleyballing, my Ex-HubZ 6 also has a knack for giving careful directions and is a wonderful junior through and through.
(Second row from left: Kelvin Yeo, Desmond, Lun Lein, Calvin Quek)
Unfamiliar faces, but you shall see them during the camp itself.
Kelvin Yeo: KY has the most to-die-for-dimples! His culinary skills is very worldly-known, and will be an indubitable asset to the starving bunnies at coming FOOT camp. He was my EX-HubZ 4, I think...
Desmond: Desmond made a good impression when he sentimentally scribble notes to the freshies on one Pelepah night. Following that, he found his other half, and disappeared. To date, he can be sighted when he is out on a date with her at Hougang-town.
Lun Lein: My Daddy Durian who promised to buy me a thumbdrive, camera and MP3 player. Never go to the KTV with Daddy! You'll (X,x) from his wretched screeching! Aiyee!!! >,<
Calvin Quek: Most of the time, we'll call him Quack Quack Quack. It has come to my attention that when we do that, we're the ducks instead. -_-||| Quack3 is the most renowned slacker but when time calls for his duty, he will perform adeptly. One more thing, Quack3 has a shocking pink camera. Watch out for that!
(Third Row from left: Her Royal highness, Hazel, Henry, Hsien, Gwen, Weisong)
Henry has left NTU and so there is little chance of you kids meeting him.
Pretty Princess K.: I can't mention my real name here lest my students start Googling for it. A rose by any name smells as sweet and a Regal Beauty as I need no further introductions.
Hazel: The Nutcase! This is one Senior who would always be there for you when you need her help. She loves it when people call her Horny. Perhaps she privately wishes to be a big fat rhinoceros?
Hsien: Our GL whom I must warn, has a stomach filled, but his brain emptied. He is otherwise known as Himbo, or the Eating Machine. He tends not to resist the term and is easily bought over with a cookie or two.
Gwen: Our other GL, who has the enthusiasm of a child and the affection of a mother. Vibrant and cheery, she will glaze much gaiety to the group and patiently attend to all you children's needs.
Weisong: Missed at the Camp briefing, Chicky Song acquired his name when he was told to act like a chicken for a forfeit in FOOT '07. Look beyond that harmless grin and you shall find a chockful of tricks up his sleeves. Sneaky Chicky, I should say.
(Fourth row from left: Chye Kiat, Gary, Si Shan, Jing Juan, Jean, Peifen, Weiling)
Chye Kiat: Although he does not belong to Octans, you'll be hearing from King Phua quite often in this camp. In fact, you'll be hearing from him ALL THE TIME because he can never stop talking. King Phua is a bucket of energy and you can always count on him to infect you with his endless rattling.
Gary: My Papa, who was the ex-POO (President of ODAC). Papa is a blur blob and you can easily trick him cos he is usually caught offguard. But we all love Papa loads cos he is a nice person with a heart of gold! [Ok, Papa, I have endorsed you. Where's my allowance? :)]
Si Shan: My Mama. Please note that my Papa and my Mama are not an item. They're just deserving names acquired in their time at FOOT '07, which stuck on till today. Mama is a responsible and wonderful role model to Gwenny. After all, we're all children of Mama SS!
Jing Juan: JJ is a gentle child whom we called Ah Ma cos she always has a thin smile that reminds me of an Ah Ma. But she is one sweet girl equipped with a pair of sparkling bright eyes and healthy pink cheeks.
Jean: Auntie Jeasies, whom you are all familiar with cos she is the Loanshark of FOOT '08! Try to butter on her good side and she MIGHT split her profits with you! Yes? Yes? =^-^=
Peifen: My Pu Ren (which means Servant in Chinese) who has a quick brain and sharp tongue. With an acute mind, Pu Ren will always the first to figure out something that seems astray. [Now, stop blackmailing my blackmails! AHHHHHH!!!]
Weiling: Our SPO (Special Project Officer) for FOOT '08. Weiling is also known as Da Tou and the fact that she has a big head means she is very smart cos it means she has a big brain. Weiling is a cute dearie who makes an ideal sister because she tends to your every need. But she hates chocolates! That's like so WEIRD!
(Top Row: Eugene, WeiQin, Muneer, Peiqin, Kexin, Yuling)
Eugene: Is our common enemy! GL for Aaliyas, you kids must box him up whenever you see him! Eugene can cycle very well, and he annoys me very much cos he'll show off his cycling stunts. I'll be happy if I can even cycle around school once. >,<
WeiQin: We call him Mickey Mouse and you will understand it when you see him in person. Mickey Mouse is one gossipmonger, so try to stay as elusive as possible in his presence, otherwise he'll conjure up some story from nowhere.
Muneer: The current POO. Muneer is my EX-HubZ 5 and also my Junior. He is really skinny and it gets onto my nerves when he starts telling us how much he weighs on the scales. Must. try. to. stay. lighter. than. him.
Peiqin: Easily remembered as PQ, she was the previous GL of Ofoes. PQ still has the zest and vibe of a freshie even though she has just completed her Senior Year in NTU. Watch out for her "Green Frog" song cos she looks really cute when she does it!
Kexin and Yuling: Badminton enthusiasts, a sport I still fail to comprehend, from Hall 3, they always entertain you with their sweet smiles and daily musings.
There are a few missing from the Ofoes family portrait, and so, I shall ink them with the Octans' first picture!
[Bottom Row from left: Renjian, Kim Joo, Joshua, Diana,(funny looking) Gwenny, Tanya (Chua), Michelle, Jeanette, Winson]
Renjian: We call him Botak cos he is remains as bald as a pinhead even after all these years. Botak wishes to reassure all of you Freshies that even though he looks like a psychotic convict on the run, he isn't one. Personally, I beg to differ. >:P
Kim Joo: An ADM major who shall have the honour of marking his career by documenting my life! You will earn big bucks by doing that!
Joshua: Mr. Tickle who will be competition to Quack3 in terms of slowness in catching up. I can wager my tiara that Mr. Tickle will take a week to master "Peace By the River".
Diana: Chemistry major! Eeeek!!!!!! But Diana has such a dazzling smile, she is forgiven for pursuing such a grotesque subject.
Tanya: Petite and cute, Tanya was fashionably late for the camp briefing, but got acquainted just as nicely with the rest of the freshies. An amiable child with a suitably angelic air.
Michelle: My NIE comrade who shall have the honour of ogling at cute PE teachers within the campus for the next four years! That lucky girl!!!
Jeanette: With a sun-kissed complexion, Jeanette radiates with ready smiles and gentle composure.
Winson: Winson reminds me of Chicky. Somewhat. Interestingly, Winson and Weisong is spelt almost similarly! A charming chap who doesn't seem to get cramps from smiling so much.
[Second Row from left: PQ, Mike, Weiling, Kang Kong, Hsien, Kok Siong]
Mike: Our other SPO for FOOT '08. Mike is a wholesome boy who never caught without his earnest toothy grin. Mighty Mike is very strong and very kind too! [Ok, I have made my amends! >:P]
Kok Siong: The next Forfeit King! Wahahaha~ By the twist of fates, KS and Joshua happened to be friends who both landed up in Octans by a series of coincidences.
[Top Row from left: Yali, Mama SS, Weishi, Ching, Hazel, Peifen, Pretty Princess K., Kian Poon]
Yali: Hairscare of the Year! But call her the Next Zoe Tay if you wish not to gain her wrath. Yali was an Econs major who is now chugging her moolah, so let's request her to be our Sugar Mama! (rhymes!)
Weishi: He prefers it if we call him Korean Star over Chinaman. Weishi is a pleasant lad who amazes me with his keen sight for the snapping camera. Stay away from Weishi's Egg with Onion. YUCK! I. hate. onions!!!!
Ching: Our lovely Sunshine who bubbles with joy and injects vivacity to the listless. Ching2 is a strong girl, so you can all make her carry your backpacks for you! Wahahaha~
Kian Poon: Although he called himself King of India, I seriously doubt his command of the language. Kaypoh Kian Poon might have suited him a whole lot better. :P
Fion, Jingli and Jiayun left earlier, so here are some pictures to remember them by
[In order of appearance from left: Fion, Pretty Princess K., Jingli and Jiayun]
Fion: Found seated on the extreme left, she was the EARLIEST to arrive. We know who we can count on to chope our space for us! >:P
Jingli: Seems like a pro trekker but I must not take any more duo photo with her cos she makes my face look fat!!! AHHHHHH!!!
Jiayun: She sure is studious cos she was taking notes during Pre-Camp briefing. Jiayun has flawless complexion, and my task is to find out her beauty secret! (But that does not imply that I am imperfect!)
I have assigned each of you Octanite as authors and authoresses to this lovely tavern. Be at liberty to inscribe whatever you wish, and have an enjoyable time working on your literary juices!
